About us
LYRATA is an international viol consort based in The Hague, dedicated to showcasing the depth, vitality, and eloquence of Renaissance and Baroque music. Grounded in the world-renowned Dutch early music revival, the ensemble embodies a tradition shaped by legendary masters like Wieland Kuijken, characterized by stylistic integrity, spontaneous musical dialogue, and a clear, expressive consort sound.
Established in 2021, LYRATA brings together four gambists: Mieneke van der Velden, Anna Lachegyi, Alex Baker, and Stefan Woudenberg, whose shared artistic roots at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague lay the foundation for a cohesive, natural ensemble interaction. From their debut featuring the complete consort fantasias of Henry Purcell to expansive programs of German sacred concertos, French Baroque suites, and new works for viol consort, LYRATA merges historical insight with compelling performance, safeguarding and reimagining the Dutch viola da gamba legacy for audiences worldwide.
