Stefan Woudenberg
Stefan Woudenberg is a performer on both the viola da gamba and the clarinet. Coming from a family of professional musicians, he began playing both instruments at an early age. He studied both disciplines at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, graduating cum laude for both degrees.
Thanks to his versatility, Stefan performs worldwide in prominent venues, ranging from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to the Sydney Opera House. He has worked throughout the Netherlands, Europe, South Korea, Japan, and Australia, both as a performing artist and as a teacher.
As a clarinetist, he is an established name with symphony orchestras and ensembles in the Netherlands and abroad. His repertoire spans large-scale opera and ballet productions to experimental contemporary music and occasional ventures into jazz.
He appears on stage with ensembles ranging from the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Dutch National Opera & Ballet to the ASKO|Schönberg ensemble and the Metropole Orchestra.
As a gambist, Stefan is in high demand with prestigious early music ensembles such as the Netherlands Bach Society and La Sfera Armoniosa. His qualities as a soloist are showcased during the Passion season, when he performs the viola da gamba solos in the St Matthew Passion with renowned orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra.
